About the film
Sick Cells began as a full-length documentary. The team intended to spread awareness about the disease by showing the impacts of SCD on Marqus' life. However, the team decided to put Sick Cells Documentary on hold after learning more about other people's lives with SCD. The team realized that there are many types of stories, types of SCD, types of families, and types of ways that the sickle cell community has thrived. The team wanted to capture more stories and elevate more voices before creating a documentary.
Although the documentary is on hold, the team plans to create a full-length documentary that includes various people’s journey with SCD. The team hopes to highlight diversity within the disease and underscore the resilience of the community.
Thank you for watching our documentary. Sick Cells has come a very long way since the creation of this documentary. We are now a 501 (C) (3) Organization that strives to elevate the voices of the sickle cell disease (SCD) community and their stories of resilience. Through actions like this creating documentary, featuring the Faces of SCD of our website, and educating the public, we aim to ignite interest around the disease. In highlighting the grave disparities this community faces, we hope to improve the quality of life and care for people living with the most common genetic disorder by influencing decision-makers and propelling change.
